what we believe

IN ESSENTIAL BELIEFS,
WE HAVE UNITY.

“For there is one body and one Spirit…there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.” -Ephesians 4:4-6

IN NONESSENTIAL BELIEFS,
WE HAVE LIBERTY.

“Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong….Who are you to condemn someone else’s servants? Their own master will judge whether they stand or fall…Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God…You may believe there’s nothing wrong with what you are doing, but keep it between yourself and God.” -Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22

IN ALL OUR BELIEFS,
WE SHOW LOVE.

“…if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.” -1 Corinthians 13:2

God | The Father

God exists as one essence and three distinct persons (God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit), each of whom is fully God individually, yet there is one God. (Matt. 28:18-20) We believe that God is eternal (existed before the beginning and will exist beyond forever), omnipotent (all powerful), and omniscient (knows all). The triune God, Father, Son and Spirit, is the Creator of all things, visible and invisible. He sustains us, and He is the Lord of our lives. (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-4; Colossians 1:15-17; Matthew 22:37; Romans 10:9)

Jesus Christ | God The Son

We believe in The Son, Jesus, God from God, eternally begotten but not made, who in history took on a human nature for the sake of our salvation (John 1:14; Hebrews 1:3). He is fully God and fully man. Through Him all things came into being and were created. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together by the word of His power (Colossians 1:15-20). He suffered, died, was buried, resurrected to life and ascended to Heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father until He returns for the final judgement and consummation of the Kingdom. (John 3:16; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 10:13)

Holy Spirit | God the Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit who eternally proceeds from the Father and the Son and is sent by the Father and Son to give new life (John 15:26-27). Holy Spirit unites believers to Jesus Christ in faith, brings about the new birth and dwells within the regenerate (Ephesians 1:13-14). The Holy Spirit has come to glorify the Son who, in turn, came to glorify the Father. He leads the Church into a right understanding and rich application of the truth of God’s Word. He is to be respected, honored, and worshiped as God, the third person of the Trinity. We at Revival trust the Holy Spirit to lead in all things. (John 14:16, 26; Acts 2:38; Romans 8:26; 2 Thessalonians 2:13)

Church | The Body of Christ

Revival is non-denominational. We are a free and independent church under Christ’s authority. Guided by a board of elders, we determine our own policies and practices in light of biblical expectations. We believe there is power in connecting with a church family and being involved. The ultimate mission of the Church is to bring glory to God by making disciples (Matt. 28:18-20). The Church is called to make disciples through worship, prayer, teaching of the Word, observance of the ordinances, fellowship, the exercise of our gifts and talents, and the proclamation of the gospel both in our community and throughout the world.

Baptism | Buried to Live

In obedience to Christ’s command and as a testimony to God, the Church, oneself and the world, believers are baptized by water in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Water baptism is a visual and symbolic demonstration of a person’s union with Christ in the likeness of His death and resurrection. It signifies that a former way of life has been put to death and vividly depicts the release from the mastery of Satan, sin and death. Revival practices water baptism by full immersion.
(Acts 2:38; Acts 19:1-6; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Romans 6:3-8; Matthew 28:19)

Salvation | Saved by Grace

We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus. Those accepting Christ as their savior repent of their sin, confess their faith and are baptized into Him. Forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust and obey Christ as their savior and Lord.

(Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16; Romans 10:9; Acts 2:38)

Communion | The Lord’s Supper

We celebrate the Lord’s Supper each Sunday, as we gather together. At Revival we do communion a little different. We use a small piece of bread and a small cup of juice to remind us of the Lord’s sacrifice, but we don’t limit communion to a quiet time between only you and God. Revival looks to the examples in Scripture (Matthew 26: 26-29) and invites you to gather with others in service to praise God for his atoning sacrifice in the body and blood of Christ. We practice ‘open communion’ which is not limited to members but to all believers. Participation is between each individual Christian and the Lord. (Acts 20:7; Acts 2:42; Luke 22:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-28)

Bible | The Word of God

The Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is the authoritative rule of faith and practice for Christians and the Church. Written by human authors inspired by the Holy Spirit, it is inerrant in it’s original text. It is useful to teach us truth, to convict us of our sins and lead us to repentance.
(2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalms 119:105, 119:160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5)

Tithing | Worship by Giving

We are dependent solely on the generosity and maturity of our own membership to supply our needs as well as those of our missions and ministries. God expects wise management of our money and resources in both our personal and congregational lives. We encourage the tithe (10%) as the minimum the Bible teaches us to return to the Lord. We understand the governing principles of stewardship to be that everything we have belongs to God. We do not hesitate to teach the principles of biblical stewardship, agreeing with Jesus that “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
(Matthew 6:21; I Corinthians 16:1-2; Malachi 3:10; Leviticus 27:30)

Ministry | Ministers, not Members

We teach that “every member is a minister,” since the New Testament teaches the ministry of all believers, recognizing that the Holy Spirit gives various and different gifts to the members of the body so that every member can make an effective contribution to the ministry of the church.
(I Peter 2:9; Ephesians 4:11-12, 16; I Corinthians 12:4-31)
